Hi friend,

We’re almost halfway through the year and FINALLY entering the start of Summer.

There are some great things to look forward to in the next few months, like:

  • Short nights

  • Holidays

  • The Avery & Brown team starting half-day Fridays

  • The Barbie movie if you’re up for that

As always, we’re going to be pretty busy heading into June with FOOTPRINT+ on the horizon. If you still haven’t picked your tickets up yet, we have a discount code for you further down this newsletter.

🔍 Fun fact of the week: Cheetahs are very inbred. Actually, they’re so inbred and their gene pool is so tiny that transplants can be made from one cheetah to the other without much chance of rejection.

Patagonia is not a sustainable brand

Outdoor apparel brand Patagonia made some waves this month after company Chairman Charles Conn announced that Patagonia does not consider itself a ‘sustainable brand’.

Where some might see it as a spark of marketing genius showing that ‘no brand’s sustainability work is ever really done’, there’s also opinions out there discussing the statement as just a harmful ploy to always appear ahead of the sustainability curve by never having a finish line.

What are your thoughts on the debate? Do you think it’s a marketing marvel or just a piece of greenwash? We’re always open to hearing your thoughts over at [email protected]!

For something a little more unconventional, canned water brand Liquid Death’s new marketing campaign takes aim at the myth of plastic recycling with a brilliantly bizarre piece of video content. We’ve definitely never seen anything like this before.

There’s just something about late Spring where everyone starts feeling the pinch. If you’re trying to avoid finding a moth whenever you open your wallet, it might be time to get cracking on a sales push. Remember, selling is a skill, and Chris Do’s 5 sales skills & tips to close more sales is a great place to start.

Are we entering a ‘sixth mass extinction’?

Photo by Zachary Spears on Unsplash

It’s been found in a sad new study that almost half the planet’s species are experiencing rapid population declines. Researchers had 70,000 species under the microscope to determine whether their populations have been growing, shrinking, or remaining steady over time. 48% of researched species are declining in population size, while fewer than 3% are seeing increases.

With the global 1.5ÂșC temperature increase drawing closer to reality, it’s important to remember that the things we should be doing to avoid crossing the threshold are actually incredibly obvious. Take a look at these 6 things governments should already be working on to solve these problems.

Even with the frustrating lack of action, it’s good to know that there are events like the Beyond Growth conference that exist to discuss and co-create policies for sustainable prosperity. Here are 10 great quotes that came out of this year’s conference, telling us that we must change our economic system if we want a liveable future for all. Do you agree with any of them?

We’ve seen a decrease in cigarette smoking habits in the UK over the last few years. In its place however, is the menacing rise of vaping. The disposable version might be cheap, accessible, and fruity tasting, but over 50% of them just get thrown into general waste once they’ve been used. So many were thrown away in the UK last year, it’s the same as sending 6,200 Tesla Model 3s to the landfill.

This house took only 100 hours to print

Need a home in a hurry? They’ve appeared in a few different countries already, but Germany has just seen its first ever 3D printed house. Using a 3D printer that can print a metre a second, construction company PERI have already completed 6 successful projects globally. Maybe we’ll see some homes printed out of 100% recycled material soon?

Prefer your buildings made from wood? Take a look at this very exciting timber construction project. Made by Waechter Architecture, this new German office cube doesn’t require bracing walls, so rooms layouts inside are completely flexible.

If you’ve been keeping up with Come Dine With Me, Countdown, or just been waiting for the new series of Bake Off to come around, you might have already noticed that Channel 4 has seen a new brand transformation. Moving all content under one roof in a form of ‘masterbrand’, the strategy aims to keep the competition of streaming platforms at bay.
